Welcome to Kindergarten! Our goal is to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment where every child can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Below you’ll find key information to help prepare your child for success in Kindergarten.
Before entering Kindergarten, students are encouraged to work on the following skills with the help of their families:
Use scissors to cut simple shapes
Hop on one foot and skip
Identify body parts (e.g., head, shoulders, elbows, knees, feet)
Name basic colors (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
Say full name, age, birthday, address, and phone number
These foundational skills help build confidence and independence as children begin their school journey.
Reading & Language Arts
Recite and recognize upper and lower case letters
Understand basic print concepts (left to right, top to bottom)
Identify beginning and ending sounds in words
Recognize rhyming and non-rhyming words
Predict outcomes and follow two- and three-step directions
Writing
Generate ideas for stories and illustrate them
Collaborate to create simple class stories
Practice writing from left to right with spacing
Write first and last names on assignments
Form letters in both upper and lower case
Mathematics
Count and write numbers up to 20
Identify coins: penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar
Compare and describe objects using size, length, and position (e.g., longer/shorter, above/below)
Recognize and create patterns and shapes
Sort objects by color, shape, and size
