Third Grade at Sechrist Elementary School
Welcome to 3rd Grade! This year marks an exciting time as students become more independent learners and deepen their understanding across all subject areas. Our third-grade team is committed to helping each student grow academically, socially, and emotionally through a supportive and engaging classroom environment.
Third Grade Teachers
Math
Students focus on mastering multiplication and division facts through 12. Key concepts include:
Fractions and measurement
Rounding and geometry
Reading and interpreting graphs
Reading
Reading instruction includes both large group lessons and small group activities using leveled readers. Lessons are tailored to each student’s reading level to build fluency, comprehension, and critical thinking.
Writing
Third graders begin by writing structured paragraphs and work toward composing full five-paragraph essays by the end of the year. Emphasis is placed on complete sentence structure and grammar, including in reading logs.
Science
Students explore:
Plant and animal adaptations
Light and sound
Basic geology concepts
Social Studies
The focus is on Arizona History, including its geography, people, and cultural development.
