Reading & Writing
Fifth-grade students focus on reading fluently with expression, rhythm, and pacing. Key learning areas include:

Using context clues to interpret multiple-meaning words

Understanding literal and figurative language

Drawing conclusions, identifying cause and effect, and making inferences

Analyzing plot structure and points of view (first-person, third-person, omniscient)
