Fourth grade is a time for students to deepen their academic skills, explore complex ideas, and grow as independent learners. Our fourth-grade team is committed to guiding students through a dynamic and engaging year of discovery.
Reading & Writing
Fourth-grade students will:
Read fluently with appropriate pacing, rhythm, and expression
Determine meanings, pronunciations, syllables, and synonyms
Demonstrate comprehension by drawing conclusions, identifying cause and effect, and making inferences
Distinguish between fact and opinion
Identify types of literature and apply effective writing traits
Accurately paraphrase information from research materials
Math & Science
In math, students will:
Understand place value and compare unit fractions
Solve problems using estimation, measurements, graphs, and charts
Verify the reasonableness of answers using estimation
Solve basic algebraic equations with a missing variable
In science, students will:
Explore properties of electricity, magnetism, and water
Investigate ways to conserve resources
Formulate questions, make predictions, and conduct investigations
Social Studies
Students will study:
Arizona and Southwest history
Early civilizations of Central and South America
Encounters between Indigenous cultures and European explorers
