CARES

Note from Mrs. Overton:

Please join me in congratulating the students above. The first two pictures are the 5th graders who were recognized at Test Prep Night for moving up a level in AASA from their 3rd to their 4th grade year. The large group picture shows the group of students who participated in our CARES Button Nature Hike last Friday. I am amazed at the number of students who show Sechrist CARES!

March was Music in Our Schools Month. Thank you to our amazing staff who has worked so hard to highlight the talents of our Band and Choir students. Ms. Leung, Ms. Kaitlyn, Ms. Kragness and Mrs. Palmer have spent countless hours surrounding our students with the love of music throughout the entire year. The pictures below are from last Tuesday night's Governing Board meeting where some of our choir members performed. "Your efforts to positively impact students through access to quality music education are valued and appreciated." ~Superintendent Penca

We are all geared up for the Trojan Trot! We hope you will join us on April 24th to cheer on our trotters as they run the track to earn money for our school. Proceeds go towards supplemental classroom resources, playground and recreation equipment, STEAM Depot needs and more! Please keep an eye out for more information. If you would like to help with the Trojan Trot or know of a business who would like to sponsor, please email sechristelementarypto@gmail.com.

Speaking of PTO, we are looking for some new officers and can always use more members. Everyone is welcome! Please join us on Wednesday night from 5:15-6:15 in the library. There is more information below.

We will start our class placement process within the next few weeks. Therefore, we would like to offer you this link to our Family Input Form for the 2026-2027 school year. This form is due by Friday, April 10th please. Hard copies are available in the office. In addition to this form, we take teacher and staff input into account when creating the most balanced classes for the upcoming school year. The intent of this form is to help us understand your perspective of the "best fit" teacher for your child. It is not a way to "request" one specific teacher. Please use this input form in place of verbal or written requests given to teachers or staff. As always, we will do our best to accommodate the needs of every child.

If you haven't already started following us on Instragram or Facebook, we would love to share more up-to-date information with you. It is also a great way for our families and friends to see all the wonderful things happening at Sechrist.

Our Family Dance Is Coming Soon!

Join us in our "Enchanted Forest" on Thursday, April 16th from 5:15-6:15 for our annual Family Dance! Student Council has been hard at work planning and making decorations for the big night. This date also marks the final day of state testing. That gives us one more reason to celebrate. Please make sure all students are accompanied by an adult family member or friend.

Arizona Tax Credit - Deadline Approaching!

Please consider Sechrist Elementary as you file your 2024 taxes. The maximum credit allowed is $400 for married filing joint filers and $200 for single, heads of household and married filing separate filers. You will receive a dollar-for-dollar reduction on your state income tax liability. Donate through April 15, 2026.

Sechrist "CARES" Update

Our focus for April is being "Safe".

Please ask your students what it looks like to be safe in different areas of the school. It is so fun to hear their ideas of what each trait means to them.

Many students have been caught showing these traits throughout the school. They have received CARES Tickets. They place these tickets in the classroom pails for a chance to get chosen to go to the CARES Button Celebration towards the end of each month!

Come join us for a fun high energy running club!!

What: The program will focus on introducing kids to running in a fun and safe way. We'll split the students up into age groups and each practice will be "station style" where they will participate in 3-4 games or activities that will involve running, teamwork, coordination, & more! Our goal is for kids to move, to have fun while moving, and to introduce them to the sport in a non-intimidating way.
When: Thursdays from April 16th through May 14th, immediately after school on the Sechrist
field until 3:30pm.
Cost: $65 per student with the following family discount: 2 kids – $115, 3 kids – $145, 4 kids –
$180.
All participants receive a KOTR T-Shirt, post practice snack & medal at the final practice.

Every Day Counts!

Being in class each day helps students stay on track with lessons, build strong friendships and develop life skills for the future.

Parents and families play a big role in supporting consistent attendance, which is one of the most important factors in a child's success in school and beyond.

These are some ways you can help support this at home...

  • Plan vacations and appointments around the school calendar when possible.
  • Report absences directly to the school's attendance office. (928-779-4029)
  • Check your student's attendance anytime in ParentVue.

If your family is facing challenges with attendance, we are also here to help. Please feel free to contact our front office or Ms. Talbot at 928-779-4024 if you would like any attendance support for your family.
